David Emanuel gave up a successful career in computing and telecommunications to pursue a new career in Hebrew Bible at the Hebrew University. Whilst at the university, he spent two valuable years at the Orion Center for the Study of the Dead Sea Scrolls. In that time, he managed their website, conducted research for their online bibliography, and provided technical support for their local computer network. Additionally, he worked for three years as a Research Assistant, where his primary duties were to edit articles for the Encyclopaedia Aethiopica, an encyclopedia devoted to providing relatively detailed information on all aspects of Ethiopian society: history, languages, religions, food, wildlife, politics etc. Currently, he is about to complete a Ph.D at the Hebrew University’s Bible department; the dissertation focuses on Biblical Hebrew poetry, and the psalmist’s use of the Exodus motif. In his copious free time David also sits on the Board of a non-profit organization that provides various types of assistance to the Falasa community here in Israel.
